Interlock is a double-knit fabric construction. It has a smooth face and back and is generally more stable than a basic single knit. In Nimuki’s current co-ord range, interlock is one of the choices behind the smooth, polished and reassuringly substantial handfeel.
What does “double knit” mean?
Fabric is not defined only by the fibre it uses. The way the yarn is knitted also changes the finished result. Interlock is built as a double-knit structure rather than a basic single knit, which gives it a smooth surface on both sides and a more stable construction.
What can a parent notice in real life?
The technical word matters only if it explains something you can actually notice. For our current co-ords, interlock contributes to the more polished, considered feel we wanted rather than a very lightweight basic T-shirt feel.
That is also why a close-up of the fabric can tell you more than a generic “100% cotton” label. Cotton identifies the fibre. Interlock tells you something different: how that yarn was constructed into fabric.
Is interlock automatically better than every other knit?
No. Different knit structures suit different garments. A basic single knit can be exactly right for a lightweight T-shirt, while an interlock can be chosen when a smoother, more stable double-knit construction fits the intended product.
For Nimuki, “premium” is not about declaring one knit universally superior. It means choosing the fibre, yarn, knit, weight, design, fit and finish that create the experience we want—and being transparent about those decisions.
Why did Nimuki choose interlock for the current co-ords?
We wanted the co-ord fabric to feel smooth, comfortable, polished and substantial in hand. Interlock is part of that recipe, together with 100% cotton, relatively fine 40s yarn and 210 GSM weight.
No single specification creates the finished garment on its own. The yarn helps shape the surface; the knit changes the construction; the GSM contributes body; and the cotton tells you the fibre content.
What should a parent actually remember?
When you read “interlock,” think smooth double knit. For Nimuki’s current co-ords, it helps explain why the fabric feels more considered on both sides and why we are comfortable showing the construction instead of hiding behind a generic fabric label.
